How would you reimagine grades 6 through 12 for the students in your life? If you’re like most people, you want your students to thrive. You want them to learn, of course, and you want them to be motivated, to become critical thinkers, and to find their passions, both in and out of their classrooms. In short, you want them to develop the foundational skills they’ll need to be successful adults.

For families and students who value education, Signature One-to-One School is today’s choice. Signature educators are teaching students in grades 6 through 12 how to think, learn, and succeed in a changing world.

Why Signature
One-to-One School?

  • Traditional college preparatory education for grades 6 - 12

  • Research-supported one-to-one teaching

  • Flexible start dates, vacation dates, and weekly class schedules customized to each student’s needs

  • In-person and online classes; students can stay in school during travel

Why one-to-one teaching?

On average, students receiving one-to-one teaching made approximately five additional months' progress in their learning compared to those who didn't receive such support.”

Students in one-to-one classes consistently learn more and outperform their peers in traditional classrooms. One-to-one students spend more time learning and develop more positive attitudes towards learning and school. Educational research consistently shows that one-to-one teaching increases students’ achievement by a factor of two standard deviations versus traditional classroom instruction. In real terms, two standard deviations means improvement in grades of about two levels -  from a C to an A!

The positive impact of one-to-one teaching boosts summative achievement scores by TWO STANDARD DEVIATIONS vs conventional classroom teaching

Achievement distribution for students under conventional, mastery learning, and tutorial instruction

Conventional Classrooms (Ratio of 1 teacher to 30 students)
Baseline for comparison. Students took periodic tests on the material for grades.

Mastery Learning (Ratio of 1 teacher to 30 students) Students took periodic tests to evaluate their progress. If necessary, they received additional teaching and re-tested on the material until earning at least an 80%. Mastery learning strategies  resulted in students performing 1 sigma above the average of the control class, e.g. a one grade increase from a B to an A.

Tutorial Teaching (ratio of 1 teacher to 1 student) resulted in the average student performing 2 sigma above the average of the control class, e.g. a two grade increase C to A. Significantly, the need for corrective work for tutorial students was very small.

What does a personalized school schedule look like for Signature One-to-One students?

A 7th-grade student-athlete schedules her class-time between Monday and Thursday so she can train in the mornings and compete on Fridays.

An ambitious 11th-grade student-athlete is able to make time for advanced coursework, standardized test prep, plus consistent training and competition in her sport.

Another 11th-grade student-athlete chose a five-day school week with afternoon classes, allowing for training each weekday morning

Academic and Scheduling Parameters

For grades 6  through 12, all classes are one-on-one to allow for flexible scheduling for each student. Because student schedules are individual and customized, there is no master academic calendar or master schedule. Families and students coordinate with administration to set start dates of coursework, weekly class schedules, and vacation days or weeks.

Maximum time to complete semesters - A semester includes eighteen full weeks of teaching. Students and teachers manage pacing of coursework to be sure that students complete each semester’s required coursework in no more than six months from the student’s start date..

Minimum time to complete semesters - Because Signature One-to-One School offers only college preparatory courses, it is not possible for students to complete a semester’s required coursework in less than twelve weeks.

Most students complete two semesters/one school year within the typical school year schedule of September through June; however, all students have the option to choose a different academic schedule, customizing start and end dates and their vacation days.

When I read the teacher comments on my daughter’s first Signature One-to-One report card, I knew we had made the right decision. For the first time in as long as I can remember, my daughter’s teachers really know my kid! They know her as a student and as a person, and she has made so much progress in all her courses because of that.
